Slaughter of Livestock - Thomas van Hemert

Dutch photographer in the Georgian Caucasus

Slaughtering of live stock in the rural areas of Georgia is a very common activity. Before the massacre, the animal live a free life, wandering around where ever they desire. They eat the land around them and are taken care for in winter months by the locals. These slaughterings photographed by Thomas happend during Christmas time in Svaneti. Within an hour after the slaughterings they ate together the meat and toasted in a Georgian manner.
